ESD Certified Professionals -  Program Manager

The ESD Association is pleased to award Professional Certification (ESD Program Manager) to the following individuals for 2009:

Christopher Almeras

Christopher Almeras is a Senior Specialist of Production Engineering for Denso Manufacturing Tennessee. He has spent the last five years working in the Body Electronics Division of Denso in Maryville, TN. Chris is a graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. Prior to working for Denso, Chris worked in the Process Engineering Group for Diversified Systems in Indianapolis, IN.

Outside of work, Chris enjoys spending his time with his wife Melanie and their three children Trace, Tristan, and Reagan. He is also an avid fan of sports and westerns, and can usually be found in his chair watching one or the other.

   

Jim Cramb

Jim Cramb is currently the Midwest Operations Manager and an ESD Consultant for SIMCO Electronics. He is a 24 year Air Force Veteran with over 27 years of experience in the field of Metrology.


Jim is an active member of ESDA, a Senior Member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and an ASQ Certified Calibration Technician. He is also a delegate Member to NCSL International, Life Member of the Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA) and Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

He has an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Electronics Systems Technology from the Community College of the Air Force. He also has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration with a Specialization in Technology Management from Saint Leo University.  

   

Tim Jeffries

Tim Jeffries leads the Operations Centralized Process Engineering Group at Harris the Government Communications Systems Division.  He and his staff support the Development and Production Manufacturing Departments. As a 30+ year employee of Harris, Tim’s background includes roles in Production Engineering, Process Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing Technology.

He is a past recipient of the Defense Manufacturing Technology Achievement Award and the Harris General Manager’s Award.

Outside of work, Tim enjoys spending his time on the water wakeboarding with his wife Lisa and son John.

   

Canon Laverty

Canon Laverty is a flash memory circuit designer for Numonyx B.V.  His primary responsibilities include designing and testing ESD protective circuitry.  This involvement in ESD work led him to join the ESDA in 2006 and cultured an interest in areas of ESD control beyond the device level.  He received his Program Manager Certification in 2009, and now is directing the internal ESD auditing of Numonyx's new lab space in California.  

Canon's formal education is in Astrophysics.  Besides gazing at clear night skies, he also enjoys learning the ukulele, studying Japanese, and playing with his one year old daughter.

   

Ronnie Millsaps

Ronnie Millsaps is currently a Global Quality Assurance Manager for Jabil Inc., a contract manufacturer based in St. Petersburg, Florida.  Starting as a Manufacturing supervisor he has had several Quality Engineering roles in plant operations and on a Global Business Development team. In the last five years he has been able to travel to Jabil sites world wide, helping establish new manufacturing locations for Cisco. Currently responsible at four legacy sites for rollout and compliance to customer documents, ESD process capability knowledge became a necessity with the customer’s release of a corporate procedure.


In his time away from work, he enjoys taking his daughter fishing, watching sporting events and rooting for the Florida Gators.  Ronnie and his wife Lisa have been married for 18 years and have one daughter, Hayley.

   

Tim Peterson

Tim Peterson is the Manufacturing Group Leader for Cameron Health, Inc.  He is responsible for the operations on the manufacturing line while producing subcutaneous implantable defibrillators.  Prior to this role, Tim was a Senior Industrial Engineer, also at Cameron Health, where he was responsible for facility and clean room construction, validation, and maintenance, process improvements and manufacturing engineering support, as well as updating the company ESD procedures and processes.  Tim has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

 

Outside of work, Tim enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids, camping, and flying

   

Doug Rogers

Doug Rogers currently manages the Skills Training program at Harris Government Communication Systems Division.  In his 28 years at Harris, Doug has been a Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer, and an Engineering Manager.  He is a past recipient of the Harris General Manager’s Award and Engineering Award.

He is a member if various IPC committees in the Assembly and Jointing and Product Assurance areas.

Doug received a BSIE from The University of Florida and an MS in Statistics from Georgia Tech.

   

Eric Williams

Eric Williams owns the company REIA Limited which is a manufacturer’s representative in Asia. He works out of his office in Japan where he has lived since 2001. He represents Desco Industries, PACE Incorporated and Trek Japan. He provides sales support and technical training to their distributors in most countries in Asia. He has a MA in Anthropology and a BA in Anthropology and Japanese. Prior to studying Anthropology he completed 3 years in mechanical engineering.

   

Matt Banning

Matt Banning is a Senior Quality Engineer at Rockwell Automation in Mayfield Heights, OH.  As part of the corporate Quality Management Systems group, he works to consolidate best practices and drive standardization across the organization. He has developed several enterprise-wide applications to support the quality management system.  Matt has also created the corporate ESD program for Rockwell, as well as, the internal training course for facility level ESD Coordinators. He leverages his role as an ISO 9001 lead auditor and audit program coordinator to ensure that the ESD program is effectively implemented.

Matt is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI), American Society for Quality (ASQ), and ESDA.

He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Case Western Reserve University.
   

Minh Do

Minh Do is currently the NASA/JPL Level A Instructor/ESD Coordinator at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.  He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Technical Management. Minh is a certified ESD Engineer and member of iNARTE. He is also a certified Quality Engineer and senior member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ).

Minh is an active member of both NASA and IPC Workmanship Technical Committees. He is a Certified IPC Trainer for various workmanship standards: IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, and IPC-J-STD-001. He accomplished the translation work with IPC for the IPC-A-610 VN, a Vietnamese version of IPC-A-610 Standard.

Minh is living with his father, his wife Huong, and teenage daughter Shary.  His hobbies include dining out, reading, exploring new technologies, and spending time with his big family.

   

David Girard

David Girard works as a Reliability Engineer for Honeywell Aerospace in Clearwater Florida.  He has been a member of the ESD Association since 1987.  Dave has been an iNARTE Certified Electrostatic Discharge Engineer since 1995.  Throughout his career, Dave has held various positions in Electronics Test, Reliability Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Quality Management.  Dave is a senior member of both the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) and the American Society for Quality (ASQ).  He is also ASQ certified in both Quality Engineering and Quality Auditing. 

Dave has a B.S.E. degree in Engineering from the University of South Florida.
   

Michelle Lam

Michelle Lam is an advisory engineer at IBM Tape Storage Characterization in San Jose, California. She has performed failure analysis on tape products with MR / GMR heads since 2000. She also has ESD control responsibility in the world wide tape head and drive manufacturing.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering at University of Toronto, Ontario, and her master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University, California. She has been a member of ESDA since 2005.

   

Dave Hattz

David received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University in 1989. He worked as a Project Engineer for Owens Corning in Amarillo Texas, developing automation systems and improving manufacturing processes. He currently works for B&W Technical Services, LLC., at the Pantex Plant in Amarillo Texas. His responsibilities include characterizing and mitigating ESD issues in the Pantex operating environments.

David has been married for 14 years and has two children. He coaches a "FIRST Lego League" robotics team, plays guitar and piano, and enjoys spending time with his family.

   

Roger Peirce

Roger Peirce is Simco’s Director of Technical Services and provides ESD consulting services to the semiconductor, electronics assembly, and medical electronics markets. He is an expert in the field of ESD failure mechanisms and yield enhancements. He holds five US patents, has authored and published more than 20 papers on ESD, and has traveled extensively throughout North America and Asia since 1986.

Prior to joining Simco, Mr. Peirce was President of ESD Technical Services from 1986 to 2006, an ESD consulting company he founded. He provided a variety of ESD related services for more than 2,000 facilities worldwide. In 1983, Mr. Peirce co-founded Voyager Technologies. Voyager designed and manufactured industry-leading ESD monitoring and test equipment. Prior to Voyager, he worked 13 years at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ, as an electronic research engineer.

Roger is married with one daughter. His wife Toni is a renowned artist in Bucks County, PA, and his daughter, Melissa, is an established singer/songwriter in Nashville, TN…penning hits for Reba McIntire, Leann Rimes, and Carrie Underwood to name a few.

   

Thomas Smith

Tom graduated from Missouri Western State College in 1984, with a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology.   Since then, he has worked for General Dynamics Space Systems Division as a Failure Analyst, Raytheon Aircraft Company as a reliability Engineer, and is presently employed with Rockwell Collins as a Component Engineer.  Since 2001, Tom has also acted as his department's ESD Coordinator, which led him to join the ESDA and begin taking courses leading to professional certification.  In 2005, Tom became certified by the National Association of Radio and Telecommunications Engineers (NARTE) as an ESD Control Engineer.  In 2008, Tom was certified by the ESDA as an ESD Program Manager.

Tom has recently written a white paper for his senior management entitled "ESD at Rockwell Collins", which documents the case for change from Mil-Std-1686 to ANSI/ESD S20.20.  As a result of this, Tom has been given a leadership position over the ESD Steering committee. 

   

John Clack

John has been employed with Trek, Inc. in Medina, NY, since 1979.  He is currently the International Accounts Manager for Trek, Inc., responsible for sales and distribution into Europe, Middle East, India, and South America.  Previous positions at Trek, Inc. include Sales Engineer, Customer Service Supervisor, Test Department Supervisor, and Test technician.  Prior to Trek, John was a Data Systems technician in the US Navy.

John has been a member of the ESDA since 2003 and also a member of the Materials Research Society (MRS) since 2003.

Interests outside of work include hunting, fishing, gardening, and of course home remodeling.

   

Timothy T. Fox

Tim is currently ESD & PFMEA Coordinator for Delphi Electronics. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston.


Tim has been married for 26 years, and has two children.


Interests include:  rock climbing, camping, martial arts, and cooking

Chris Lemke

Chris has a Bachelor of Science degree in Technology Management from the State University of New York (SUNY), Empire State Campus.  Currently he is an active member of the Trek, Inc. sales team, where he provides technical and application assistance to customers.  Since 1993, Chris has been affiliated with various sectors of the semiconductor / thin films industry, such as ENI Power Systems and Balzers, Inc.  Chris also served in the USAF as an Avionics Technician, repairing RF communication and navigation equipment. 

In addition to his membership with the Electrostatic Discharge Association, he is presently a member of the American Vacuum Society and the Electrostatics Society of America.  He presently holds an FCC General Radio Telephone license. 

Chris shares his love for the outdoors with his wife Deanne.  Chris' hobbies include auto sports (NHRA drag racing), sport shooting, hunting and fishing, and auto restoration.

   

Daniel Mitchell

Daniel is currently an Electronics Control Engineer at Trane.  He graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, and is currently attending classes to receive his Master of Engineering.  He has worked on the controls for Trane’s CleanEffects and American Standard’s AccuClean.  He is currently working on the next generation of thermostat or Comfort Control.

Daniel has been married for 11 years and has four kids.  He recently finished building his house in Tyler, Texas, doing 90% of the labor.  Now that it is complete, he will return to enjoying time computer gaming, landscaping, and enjoying time with his family.

   

Elwin Rego

Elwin J. Rego received a B.E degree in Electronic Engineering from Bangalore University, India, in 1983, and a MBA degree from the State University of New York Buffalo in 1987 with concentrations in Management Information Systems and Marketing. During this time, he received Alpha Mu Alpha Scholastic honors.

 

He is currently employed as a Sales Engineer at Trek, Inc., a manufacturer of Electrostatic Measurement and Control equipment, High Voltage Amplifiers and Electrostatic Voltmeters.

 

Elwin also has many years of prior work experience as a Product Manager / Program Manager at a number of high technology computer hardware, instrumentation, and medical device companies.

Outside of work he enjoys jogging, playing racquetball, and golf. Elwin and his wife, Susan, have been married for 16 years and have two children; a daughter Angela and a son Ryan.

   
Patsawat Tachamaneekorn Patsawat Tachamaneekorn is an ESD Program Manager at Seagate Technology, Teparuk, Thailand. He has been employed at Seagate since 1995 as an ESD & Contamination Control Engineer. Patsawat has been a member of the ESD Association since 1999 and has worked on translating ESD Association's standard documents into Thai. Most recently ANSI/ESD S20.20 - 2007.  As well as being the first Thai who got an ESD Certified Professional Program Manager, Patsawat is also the first Thai who got NARTE Certified ESD
Engineer.

Patsawat earned his Master's Degree in Business Administration from Ramkhamhaeng University, Thailand, and his Bachelor Degree in Electronics
Engineering from Assumption University, Thailand.
   

Kep Pen Yan

Kep Pen Yan is a senior manager in the Quality Management department in Infineon Technologies Malaysia. He has 27 years of experience in the semiconductor packaging industry, mainly in reliability testing and failure analysis. In 1995, he undertook additional responsibility as the ESD Coordinator for the semiconductor packaging plant in Malaysia, an appointment he has held ever since. He heads a highly motivated team in Infineon Technologies Malaysia and together they have made tremendous improvement and breakthroughs in ESD protection. He is the site trainer on ESD related topics for Infineon Technologies Malaysia. His experience and knowledge in the field validates his representation of Infineon Malaysia in the Infineon World Wide ESD team. He is also the Infineon ESD representative for customers in the Asia Pacific region. He has provided numerous ESD training to customers and also supported many customers on ESD assessment of their production lines.

KP Yan is a member of the ESD Association since 2001. To date, he has contributed four technical papers to the EOS/ESD Symposium.

   

Dale Fuller

Dale Fuller has been employed at Seagate Technology in Longmont, California, since 1997. He is an ESD Staff Engineer, and only started working in the ESD field in 2005. He functioned as an automation engineer for most of his career.

Dale earned his B.S.E.E. from the University of Colorado in 1982.

   

Brad Klepsa

Brad Klepsa, Advanced Telemetry Systems, has quality management and engineering experience in the automotive, medical, communications, and software industries along with governmental agencies. He has applied quality methodologies, and implemented ISO 9001 and QS-9000 quality management systems in the areas of electronics, software, plastics, and machining for the past 16 years. Brad is trained as a lead auditor in QS-9000 and ISO 9001 and is an ASO Senior Member holding Certified Quality Manager, CQA, and CQE certifications.

Brad holds a BS degree in Electronics Engineering Technology and minors in Computer Science and Automotive Engineering Technology. Brad is one of the quality management trainers for South Central College in Faribault, MN.

Brad coaches/supervises community education football, baseball, basketball, and billiards.

   

Marcus Koh

Marcus Koh is a Sales Application Director for Everfeed Technology Private Limited, with territory covering South-East Asia and People’s Republic of China. He has conducted Megasonic/Ultrasonic Training, ESD/ESA Contamination & Control presentations, and ESDA Assessments and consultations for multi-national companies. He has also trained various engineers internally and externally on ESD Control, ANSI/ESD S20.20 methodology, and ANSI/ESD STM3.1-2000 Ionization.

Marcus graduated with First Class Honors with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University. There he was awarded the PUB Book Prize for outstanding performance in the subject “Power Electronics and Drives.” He received a Letter of Commendation from the Dean of the School, and was ranked as among the best in his graduating class.

Marcus’ interests include jogging, windsurfing, weight-lifting, tennis swimming and classical music.

   

Jim Krzmarzick

Jim earned his B.S.E.E. from the University of Houston and is an Air Force veteran. He is currently a senior electrical engineer in a test lab at NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston. He serves as the ESD Control Program Manager for the lab, and also certifies control programs in other facilities on and off-site, and performs testing of ESD control products. He has several other responsibilities as well, including performing harness testing, parts screening, DPA and FA, and managing the wire and cable testing program at JSC. He also serves on several task groups of the Aerospace Wire and Cable subcommittee of the SAE Aerospace Council.

Jim and his wife, Sylvia, are animal lovers, have three dogs, love to cook and travel. Jim loves the outdoors and finds serenity in his garden. He also enjoys sports and yoga, and is active in politics.
   

Luis Velazquez

Luis Velazquez graduated with honors from the University of Puerto Rico in June 2004, with a major in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Process Instrumentation and Automation.

He works as a Manufacturing Engineer for Curtis Instruments at the Carolina, Puerto Rico, Manufacturing site. Working as part of one of the industry’s leaders in motor speed controllers, he was in charge of various manufacturing lines, including the 1244 Motor Controller, which is used in applications such as fork lifts, personnel carriers, and other industrial vehicles.

During March 2006, he began the preparations to complete the ESDA’s ESD Certified Professional-Program Manager certification by first attending the two tutorial courses offered at Austin, Texas: Cleanroom Considerations for the Program Manager and Air Ionization Issues and Answers. Later, taking advantage of the different scheduled tutorials given by the ESDA, he was able to take the other courses required for the certification, learning lots of information from the instructors while meeting and making some good friends along the way.

He continues to be in charge of some manufacturing lines at Curtis Instruments, while at the same time being in charge of developing and upholding their ESD Control Procedure, researching and implementing further improvements in their ESD control strategies as part of his company’s continuous improvement efforts.

   

Kevin Duncan

Kevin Duncan is an ESD Staff Engineer at Seagate Technology, Bloomington, MN. He has been employed at Seagate since 2005 and is responsible for controlling ESD in the Slider and Head Gimbal Assembly (HGA) processes.

Kevin has been a member of the ESD Association since 2000 and is currently a member of the ESDA Standards Committee, Technical and Administration Support Committee, and Working Group 9.0, Footwear.

Kevin graduated in 1998 from the University of Wisconsin – Stout, where here received his Bachelor of Science Degree.

   

Doug Miller

Doug Miller received an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of New Mexico in 1994 and a B.S. degree in Engineering Physics from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1982. During this time, he earned Alpha Phi Sigma and Sigma Pi Sigma Scholastic Membership.

From ‘85 to ‘91, he was employed by defense contractors BDM Corporation, BDMMSC, and UIE. During this time, he was fully engaged in strategic defense initiative projects, small business innovative research prototype development, electrical overstress analysis of weapon systems, and operation, maintenance, and testing of weapon systems.

In 1993, he joined the Pantex Plant work force as an employee for Battelle Memorial Institute, where he was responsible for developing and disseminating electrical safety policy, and evaluation of facilities, equipment, testers, and manufacturing processes in nuclear explosive safety areas. He developed and provided demonstrations to customers, as well, as training classes for engineers and technicians. He was a technical advisor to national study groups and management. Since working at the Pantex Plant, he has been awarded the Defense Programs Award of Excellence, the Pantex Scientific Advancement Award, and twice awarded the Pantex Key Contributor Award.

In 2001, he transitioned to BWXT Pantex as a Section Engineer, where he provided technical and management leadership for the nuclear explosive electrical safety program at Pantex. He mentored and managed Pantex electrical engineers on the art of nuclear weapon electrical safety. He provided policy interpretation, management system design and implementation, guidance to engineers and technicians, customer service, and informational briefings. He was a qualified voting nuclear explosive safety study group member. Also, he was an advisor or member in numerous nuclear explosive safety studies and DOE explosive safety committee meetings. He was a subject matter expert for nuclear explosive safety study groups, explosive safety committees, defense nuclear safety facility boards, and the DOE. He created, produced, and managed computer modeling, analysis, and approvals for electrical concerns in Nuclear Explosive Areas.

In 2004, he became a technical staff member for Sandia National Laboratories located at the Pantex Tri-Laboratory Office. There he functions as a quality engineer for nuclear weapons manufacturing, surveillance, assembly of flight test units, assembly of laboratory test units, and laboratory testing of test units for all of the nuclear weapons programs. Mr. Miller serves as a qualified voting nuclear explosive safety study group member and electrostatic discharge control management expert advisor for nuclear explosive safety studies.

Outside of work he enjoys supporting and working with grade school and high school children in sports, religion, and arts. Doug and his wife, Julie, have been married for 20 years and have four children, one in high school and three in grade school.

   

Carl Newberg

Carl Newberg is the President of MicroStat Laboratories/River’s Edge Technical Service, an independent testing laboratory and consulting service to the static and contamination control industries. He is a NARTE Certified ESD Engineer and an ESD Association Certified ESD Program Manager. He is currently the contamination Control Senior Scientist for Magnecomp Precision. Carl has been a member of the ESD Association since 1995, and is an active member of the Standards Committee, participating in working groups on ionization, packaging, cleanrooms, garments and gloves. Carl was the Technical Program Committee Chairman for the 2004 EOS/ESD Symposium, the Vice General Chairman for the 2005 EOS/ESD Symposium, and the General Chairman for the 2006 EOS/ESD Symposium.
   

Robert Perry

Robert “Bert” Perry was born a Buckeye, raised a Hoosier, and became a Spartan by the grace of God. He has been active in ESD control in the magnetic recording/hard drive industry since 1997, and has authored six ESDA papers while working for Quantum, Maxtor, and Seagate Technology.

Bert has been active in ESDA technical program committees since 1999, and is currently involved in investigations of ESD and magnetic reliability.

When not reminding his employer “don’t lose your head over ESD,” Bert can generally be found enjoying the delightful company of his wife, roughhousing with his children, or making a mess in the kitchen or the wood shop.

   

Timothy Prass

Timothy Prass is a Senior Quality Engineer with Raytheon Technical Services Co., LLC. There he is a divisional AS9100 Lead Internal Auditor, Site and Divisional ESD Lead.  He is the acting Administrative Lead of the Raytheon Corporate ESD Council, which is currently implementing a corporate-wide ESD policy and specification.

Timothy has 25 years experience in design and manufacturing of electromechanical products with Trane Air Conditioning Co., United Technologies - Carrier, and Raytheon.

He earned his B.S.M.E. from Michigan State University, and MBA from Butler University.

Timothy is the working group chair of WG13, Hand Tools; secretary of WG 53, Compliance Verification; a statistics lead for the design and conduct of interlaboratory testing; and a member of the Standards Committee.
