POSITION SUMMARY 

location is in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Reporting into the Manager of Quality Support the successful candidate will maintain and improve the ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) Control Program within RIM Manufacturing and Global Repair Services operations.

The ESD Specialist will work regularly with many other manufacturing departments including Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, Organizational Development, Purchasing, Facilities, IT, Health and Safety, and Training.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct audits and process monitoring of manufacturing and repair services operations to evaluate, measure, and analyze ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) process controls, including contract manufacturers and component suppliers.
  • Conduct evaluations, testing and analysis of materials, components, tools, and processes with respect to ESD design and process controls.
  • Continuous review of industry requirements and standards and ensure RIM Manufacturing Policies are current to meet these.
  • Review of new parts , materials ,products and equipment fixtures to ensure ESD compliance and work with component engineering in New parts and product introductions to ensure manufacturing process are adequately equipped and designed to meet the ESD requirements
  • Facilitate understanding of ESD control principles and theory within RIM manufacturing, repair services, EMS partners, and component suppliers through training and other communication systems.
  • Maintain calibration processes for ESD instrumentation and systems.
  • Support for FA on electrical failures which could be related to ESD/EOS causes.
  • Design, maintain, and improve automated systems to increase efficiency and reliability of ESD process controls.
  • Maintain relationships with ESD equipment suppliers to provide RIM manufacturing and repair services organizations with world class supplies of ESD tools, materials, and skill sets.
  • Some travel required.

Qualifications 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in computer or wireless communications field (e.g. computer engineering, electrical engineering, systems design engineering, or computer science)
  • Solid understanding of electrostatic fundamentals (Maxwell's equations, transient electrostatic phenomena, simulation)
  • 3-5 Years of Related Work Experience
  • Solid understanding of computer architectures (computer systems design, operating systems, interface technologies)
  • Experience implementing and employing international engineering standards (ANSI, IEC, ISO).
  • Demonstrated ability working with electrostatic laboratory equipment (high-speed digital oscilloscopes, electrometers, high-voltage power supplies) and equipment communication interfaces.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including demonstrated ability creating and delivering oral presentations, and authoring engineering reports.

ADDITIONAL ASSETS

  • Experience developing, maintaining, and auditing quality management systems
  • Experience with software development (Java, C/C++, VB)
  • Experience in robotics and control systems
  • Experience developing ESD (Elecrostatic discharge) control programs
  • Project management experience

Senior ESD Design Engineer

Silicon Labs – Austin, TX

Summary: Advanced development and testing of ESD protection schemes for a wide variety of semiconductor processes. Expected to play a lead role in the ESD function.

Essential Functions: • Evaluates various ESD protection network choices and how they influence and interact with I/O circuits. • Debugs protection problems and develops debug strategies. • Executes according to pre-determined ESD approaches and parameters and develops new concepts. • Oversees and mentors other engineers in either a technical or project lead role.

Qualifications: Education and/or Experience: A technology-related bachelor's degree or equivalent training and 8 years of related experience. An advanced degree may reduce the minimum experience required. Graduate coursework is desirable. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Advanced knowledge of on-chip ESD protection circuit design • Advanced knowledge of CAD design tools such as Cadence and SPICE • Thorough understanding of semiconductor process masking steps and processing modules • Advanced knowledge of ESD relevant device physics such as snapback and other high-level injection phenomenon/device operations • Understanding of Latch Up (LU) mechanisms and abatement strategies • Experience with understanding, specifying and reviewing FA results for SEM, light emission, OBIRCH/TIVA, FIB, etc. • Fully familiar with industry ESD test standards and latest developments. • Advanced laboratory measurement skills (analog and digital) • Familiarity with quality systems documentation and procedures • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.

TD - Senior Engineer / Engineer (ESD)
(Singapore)

Responsibilities:

Senior Engineer

  • Assist in the ESD and LU development support for various technology nodes
  • The job scope will include extensive test chip design and layout, spice model development, circuit simulations, layout verification, design database preparation and documentation
  • The job scope includes R&D on new and optimized ESD solutions from a foundry perspective
  • In this position, the staff will be support cross functionally teams such as IO design and ESD library development
    Other responsibilities will include:
  • Investigates and develops solution for highly complex circuit level ESD problems
  • Learn and evolve in any other skills and tools required to achieve challenging ESD development goals including automation, and new research areas
  • Publish in relevant peer reviewed journal and conferences
  • Actively pursue patent development

Engineer

  • The engineer will actively pursue ESD device development and assessment of ESD and LU performance of various technologies
  • The responsibilities include device definition, characterization of the ESD devices using DC, pulsed and RF testers, latch up characterization, documentation and reporting, assist internal process owners for the ESD and LU rule definition
    Other responsibilities include:
  • As required, explore the need to modify any given processes, procedures or methods to develop new solutions for the foundry and its customers
  • Continuously research and potentially develop new test methods and charactersation approaches.
  • Publish in relevant peer reviewed journal and conferences
  • Actively pursue patent development

Requirements:

  • Phd or Masters Degree in Physics
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant working experience

Senior Engineer

  • Good and demonstrated knowledge in device layout, circuit design, custom layout, and IO design
  • Well versed in circuit design and layout tools (such as those from cadence or Mentor)
  • Analog circuit and RF design knowledge is a plus

Engineer

  • Good knowledge of microelectronics and semiconductor device physics
  • Demonstrated expertise and knowledge in ESD protection design and analysis using pulsed/ ESD testers, and device design
  • Experience in HV device physics, compact model simulation, and product engineering is valuable
  • Candidate is required to have exceptional technical skills combined with evidence of motivation to work in ESD and LU reliability area
  • Open and willing to listen to internal and external customer concerns and willing to go an extra mile to help customers succeed in their efforts to achieve required ESD and LU performance targets
  • Fluency in English language is a must, with good comprehension capability
  • Ability to handle anyone with a pleasant attitude and willingness to share/mentor colleagues
